I think it’s safe to say that most people enjoy summer and the lifestyle it brings with it. Whether it be no school (for most students), the hot and sunny weather, the swimsuits, or the beach, there’s something about the warm season that puts the mind at ease.

I HATE SUMMER. Let me explain myself.

I get out of the military at the end of June this year and go back to school in the fall. I haven’t had a summer break since 2007 (the year I joined the Navy), so I forgot what that “vacation” is really like. Since I’ve been working for the last five and half years without it, I almost feel like I’d be bored to death with that much time off. I love being productive, filling my days with things to do and tasks to accomplish. I guess you can say this is one of the many adjustments veterans make when they transition into the civilian life.

The sun is my enemy. A lot of people say “it’s a beautiful day” or “the weather is gorgeous” when the sun shines down on us Californians and decide to go out to enjoy it. I prefer to stay in the shade or anywhere with air conditioning (the blinds to my apartment are almost always closed to prevent any light from leaking in). Also, I sweat pretty easily (a blessing and a curse). I really don’t know how or why all of this came to be, but “it is what it is.”

Summer fashion is almost nonexistent. Although kicking it in flip flops, shorts and tank tops is super comfortable, there’s no aesthetic. Nothing to look at, unless you like to creep and peep on people walking around half naked (something we’re all guilty of, I’m sure). Maybe this is why we call it “Lazy Summer?”

The beach is chill though, no gripes with that place (as you can see in these photos).

All of that being said, I’m hoping this summer season, with all of the changes and new beginnings in my life, will shed some new light on my outlook.
