DRESS TO IMPRESS

DRESS TO IMPRESS

Over the last several years, the phrase “dress to impress” has lost a lot of meaning. The attire “required” to meet this criteria tends to be misconstrued, leaving many underdressed for the occasion.

So, let’s clear things up.

For starters, whether you’re going out to pick up some groceries at the local market, heading across town to your favorite bar/club, or just walking your dog around the neighborhood, you should not only dress accordingly, but dress well. After all, it’s a small world and you never know who you may run into. Now, I’m not saying you need to throw on a suit and tie for any and everything you do, but at the absolute, bare minimum, make yourself presentable for any and every situation. Remember, your appearance is their first impression, and, more often than not, may be your one and only.

With that being said, all of this is significantly easier if you know your target audience and/or specifics of the event that you’re dressing up for. I can’t say there’s a specific outfit suitable for every “Dress to Impress” occasion, or that one is better than the other, but you can never go wrong with pants and a collared shirt (keeping a jacket/blazer and tie in the car wouldn’t hurt either). When in doubt, stick with the saying,”better safe than sorry” because when worse comes to worse, you’ll be overdressed, which could also mean you’re the best dressed.

Lastly, having a significant other doesn’t exclude you from this. You might think that special someone is all that matters, so there’s no longer a need to dress to impress, but that couldn’t be any further from the truth. That very person is who you should and want to look good for because how they see you, inside and out, matters.

Dress to impress isn’t just the attire for an occasion, it’s a lifestyle, and like everything else in life, do it well.

WORD OF ADVICE | Unless it’s a life or death situation, you’re at a pajama party, or you literally have nothing else to wear, keep the PJs at home.
