MEMORANDUM

All gave some. Some gave all.

I want to take a moment to touch on something very near and dear to me. In case you didn’t get the memo, yesterday wasn’t about the BBQ and brews. It also wasn’t about the brave men and women currently serving our country. Memorial Day is a day to remember those service members who lives were lost, but certainly not forgotten (in my heart and mind, at least). It’s a day to remember that without their sacrifice, we probably wouldn’t be who or where we are now.

I spent a lot of time yesterday remembering one of my best friends that I met on deployment whom I lost late last year to suicide. I still find it hard to believe that he’s gone. I guess you can say that I haven’t fully come to terms with it, but I do my best. I know that he’s finally made his peace, however, and that alone gives me some relief. Words cannot express how much I miss him, but I’m extremely grateful for just having him be a part of my life.

I love and miss you very much, kuya. Thanks for helping me be the man I am today.
