Good luck!

Like any Asian kid growing up in the 90s, an unhealthy dose of martial arts movies were heavily consumed in my household. One of my favorite childhood memories was going to 777 Video in Carson (AKA Filipinotown of the South Bay) with my family to rent VHS tapes, and I always requested films starring Bruce Lee (my favorite), Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and even the Hollywood guys like Jean Claude Van Damme (my favorite non-Asian) and Steven Seagal (parent’s favorite). Sorry Chuck, No love here. More often than not, the movie had Asian gangsters that the action star had to defeat, and as much as I love the latter, this outfit is quite obviously inspired by the former. Fast forward to the present, and I can still say that martial art films are one of my preferences in and out of the cinemas. The only difference is how brutal the action has to be, which brings me to my last, but most important point, my favorite action films. Without question, The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2: Berandal. Don’t even talk to me unless you’ve seen both of them first.

Who’s your favorite martial artist? What’s your favorite action film? Let me know in the comments below.
