FRANCIS KENNETH FRANCIS KENNETH Tue, 27 Jun 2017 14:00:05 +0000 en-US hourly 1 47033371 NATIONAL SUNGLASSES DAY Tue, 27 Jun 2017 14:00:05 +0000

In partnership with The Vision Council’s #SunglassSelfie campaign and fourth annual (the go-to source for info about eyewear tips, trends, and more).

As you know, the sun and I are not on the best of terms. Things are a little complicated. Yes, I know it’s essential to my life, but an unhealthy combination of heat, UV rays, and the fact that it’s always the center of attention, or the solar system rather, doesn’t exactly make it a relationship that I want to be a part of. Unfortunately for me, there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s inevitable, and the sun will still be shining long after my time is up (or will it?). Who knows.

You’re probably wondering why any of this matters. Well, just like sunblock or sunscreen for your skin, sunglasses for your eyes are equally important (surprise!) in protecting yourself from the brightest star of them all. Besides me, of course.

According to a survey by The Vision Council, a whopping 31% percent of American adults report wearing sunglasses every time they go outside, and 27% report they don’t wear sunglasses outdoors AT ALL. That is insane! Am I the only one who’s ever looked directly at the sun and was immediately blinded??? Do the rest of these non-sunglass-wearing adults live in caves??? I need answers, and I need them now!

For the rest of you who don’t live in complete darkness, do yourself a favor and look for a pair of sunnies that will protect you, with comfort and style, and fits into your daily activities – like these stunnas…

SAN DIEGO Wed, 26 Apr 2017 14:00:13 +0000

Let me repeat myself. If I had to live anywhere else in California, it would without a doubt be San Diego. Let me show and tell you why.

OUTFIT | Sunglasses c/o Covry. Watch c/o Meister. Belt c/o Anderson’s Belts. Shoes c/o SWIMS.

If this place were in LA, there would be lines of people out the door trying to get their Instagram on.

Everything from the decor to the food is picture perfect.

I’m not a matcha enthusiast or expert by any means, but I’d say this cafe does it justice. I recommend the matcha horchata and donuts.

Oh, and don’t forget to take your selfie in the restroom mirror. You’ll see what I mean when you get there.

THIS IS A MUST. I don’t care what else you do in SD, but you’re required to dedicate an hour here at the very least. There’s just too much to see, too much to do. You’re better off planning an entire day around it.

The botanical garden in particular is one of the most gorgeous, peaceful places that I find myself always going back to. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to avoid the crowds and capture some pretty epic shots of the architecture and scenery.

OUTFIT | Hat c/o Stetson. Boots c/o Blundstone.

One word, BRUNCH. I would argue that San Diego is one of the best cities for my favorite meal of the day, and this restaurant is yet another to check out.

Bloody Mary, mussels, and crab cakes. If you don’t try these, you’re missing out. Straight up.

Coffee break.

Shout out to DriveShop for letting us cruise around in style with a top of the line, fully loaded Hyundai Genesis. I felt like such a baller driving the girls in this luxe beauty. Highly considering getting a new car. HELP.

OUTFIT | Rings c/o In God We Must. Watch c/o Meister. Jeans c/o Hudson. Boots c/o Guess.

“Modern California flavors with an Italian twist.” NAILED IT.

I order you to order anything and everything. You won’t be disappointed.

Almost everything is made from scratch, and the menu changes weekly to feature the freshest, locally sourced ingredients.

If you’re a fan of cocktails (whiskey in particular), I strongly recommend the Madison, and if you’re a meat-eater like me, the Wagyu-Ribeye and Lamb Sirloin will satisfy your carnivorous appetite.

Shout out to Goby for keeping my teeth clean and my breath fresh. Y’all know your boy eats and drinks like there’s no tomorrow, and this electric toothbrush is just what the doctor ordered (yes, dentists are doctors too).

OUTFIT | T-Shirt c/o Selectiv. Jeans c/o Hudson. Boots c/o New Republic Man.

I lived in a pretty nice spot in Mission Valley several years ago, but Circa 37 is next level. Thanks to Synergy Housing, the girls and I were living large and comfortably in a fully furnished apartment stocked with snacks and drinks (not pictured) to really make us feel at home. I love staying at hotels, but this accommodation has me reconsidering my options in the near future. In fact, I’ll be back in the area this summer, and you better believe I’ll try to move in this time around (half-joking).

Special thanks to Lisa and MJ for tagging along last minute on what was supposed to be a chill weekend to get my sleeve shaded at Apogee Tattoo Parlour. Turned out to be another trip for the books.

Stay classy, San Diego.

The event promo said we’ve never been to a tasting like this, and they were 100% right.

Last week, Q and I had the pleasure of attending our first cannabis tasting, Lifted and Gifted 420 presented by High Standards Agency. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but like all new experiences, we went in with an open-mind. As you can see, this was a pretty elaborate dinner by Chef Lisa, and the complementing cannabis strains were top notch. In short, IT WAS LIT. I WAS LIT. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was still high from the event.

If you’ve ever wanted to have an elevated experience, then look no further. Check out their next event here.

BRACK SHOP TAVERN Fri, 21 Apr 2017 14:00:03 +0000

You know I had to do it again.

…but this time with some familiar faces.

L to R | Drew, FK, Thrash, and Rudy.

Hummus. Tequila Sunrise.

Empanadas. Brack Shop Coffee.

French Fries. Old Fashioned-Brack Style.

Chicken and Biscuits.

Brack Burger.

Cheesecake Empanadas.

I had the pleasure of bringing these gents in to a spot just down the street from Drew and Rudy’s store, Pocket Square Clothing. Brack Shop Tavern, as you’ve seen in a previous post, is restaurant in downtown that is equally dope and delicious. Just all around good vibes. If you’re as much of a brunch lover as I am, they got you. If you prefer to grab some drinks and catch a game after work, they got you. If you have no idea where to take your date out for dinner, they got you. In fact, it really doesn’t matter when you go because you guessed it, THEY GOT YOU.

VIA VENETO Wed, 19 Apr 2017 14:00:54 +0000

I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t the best restaurant I’ve dined at this year.

…and yes, I’m well aware that we’re not even halfway through 2017.

The truth is, I can’t even think of another place that comes close.

But don’t quote me on that just yet…

From the bottle of red to the apps, the entrees to the desserts, Via Veneto like Tiger Woods in his prime, was more than just par for the course.

Next level, for real.

Although we thoroughly enjoyed every dish that came out, there were definitely a few standouts.

…AND THEY WERE ALL MEAT (calamari, tomahawk steak, and lamb).

What else were you expecting me to say?

I’m literally drooling recapping this night. Send help.

3 out of 3 FKs were given.

Special thanks to JS2 PR.

7 DIAMONDS Fri, 14 Apr 2017 14:00:57 +0000

Despite these next several months being my least favorite of the year (I strongly dislike the heat, which I obviously haven’t said enough since the start of this blog), the good people at 7 Diamonds came through in the clutch with a couple pieces from their latest spring/summer 2017 collection.

In the first look, I’m sporting a pair of their hybrid shorts in an outfit that screams pool parties. To my surprise, they’re made to seamlessly transition from (actually) swimming in the pool/at the beach to walking/running around. You know your boy loves his camo, so no surprises there.

In the second look, I’m wearing their denim shirt in a western inspired outfit. It’s all about tones with this one, and a light blue top with off-white bottoms will always be your friend during this season. Throw in some brown accents to bring it all together, and you have your uniform for all the warm evenings to come.

THE INDEPENDENCE + COPA D’ORO Wed, 12 Apr 2017 14:00:07 +0000

I had the pleasure of going on a double date not too long ago with the homies (fam at this point), Justin and Mariel, and of course, my home girl, MJ. We started the evening off with a huge (YUGE) dinner tasting at The Independence, and finished the night off with a cocktail tasting at Copa D’ Oro. Although it was my first time at The Independence, it surely didn’t disappoint (as you can see). Copa D’ Oro, on the other hand, had to have been visit number 1,000,000. At one point in my life, it was me and my hometown friends’ go-to bar in Santa Monica. In fact, I would argue that it still is for most of us. Till this day, I have no idea how we managed drive home on top of all the food and drinks we had, but I’m here to tell you that it was a dining experience to die for.

2.5 out of 3 FKs were given.

Shout out to my White Oak fam for making this special evening happen!
